Too Young to Consent and Too Young to be Judged

NMAP worked with two northern Nigerian women’s human rights groups, Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) and Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI), and their partners to produce three videos that take new approaches in the fight against child marriage. This video uses lessons from the case of Wasilat Tasi’U to educate policymakers on the human impact of child marriage, as well its broader social impact. Rather than approaching the project as an opportunity to critique child marriage from a Western perspective, Too Young to Consent instead uses Sharia law with analysis by recognized religious leaders to make the argument that religious law does not forbid the establishment of a minimum marriageable age.
