The Fight Against Child Marriage: Girls in Their Own Voices

NMAP worked with two northern Nigerian women’s human rights groups, Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) and Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI), and their partners to produce three videos that take new approaches in the fight against child marriage. In Northern Nigeria, 76% of girls are married before the age of 18 and often suffer from isolation, tremendous economic disempowerment, and sexual violence and forced pregnancy. This video features girls and women sharing their personal experiences of child marriage, highlighting the systemic nature of domestic violence, emotional abuse, and health problems that accompany the practice.
