Fight the Outbreak: Holding the UN Accountable for Cholera in Haiti

NMAP partnered with the Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti (IJDH) to produce a video on UN accountability in the spread of cholera in Haiti. In 2010, a group of UN peacekeeping troops from Nepal introduced Cholera into Haiti’s primary river system. As a result of IJDH’s advocacy efforts, including a Federal Lawsuit against the UN in New York, the UN finally admitted to playing a role in the epidemic in August 2016. IJDH noted that our videos brought the voices of rural cholera victims from Haiti directly to the cities abroad where decisions about their rights are made, and helped to keep the issue alive and emotionally compelling long after the issue had left headlines.
